Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu MK Stalin inaugurated a camp in the state to make it easier for women to register their applications for the Rs 1,000 month basic income scheme. The camp, which was inaugurated on Monday, was organised under the DMK government's flagship project that will be introduced in September.

Stalin launched the registration process and checked the biometric registration procedure. According to the authorities, the first phase of the special camp for the Dharmapuri area would take place from July 24 to August 4 and would involve 2,21,484 family card holders.

For 2,47,111 people with ration cards, the second phase of the camp would take place between August 5 and August 16. For the registration process, up to 35,923 camps are scheduled to be held around the state.

The state government allocated Rs 7,000 crore for the "Kalaignar Magalir Urimai Thittam" (Kalaignar Scheme for Women's Right), a project to guarantee a basic minimum income for qualified women who are the heads of families, in the 2023–24 budget. Approximately one crore women are anticipated to profit from the programme.

Regarding eligibility, the government has said that the family's annual income must be less than Rs 2.50 lakh.

Wetland owned by applicants must be smaller than five acres, and dryland must be smaller than 10 acres. Less than 3,600 units of power should be consumed annually in homes.

In a review meeting held here on 7 July, Stalin gave officials the advice to make sure that the scope of the programme includes every qualified person. District collectors should make sure that disadvantaged groups like squatters, tribal people, and sanitation workers benefit.

Even if prospective beneficiaries from marginalised sections do not have requisite documents like ration and Aadhar cards, facilitation should be extended to them to get such documents. The government had announced that the scheme would be implemented from September 15, the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister and Dravidian icon CN Annadurai.

Other eligibility requirements include the requirement that applicants be at least 21 years old and that only one woman/woman-head from a family with a ration card may apply to receive the Rs 1,000 monthly support.

If a man's name appeared as the family head on the ration card, his wife would be considered the family's female head. One of the other women who are a part of that household would be treated as woman head of family for the purposes of the plan if the man's wife's name did not appear on the ration card for some reason.
