Just like any other business, movie making is also considered a male-dominated field. But these two school friends, Monisha Advani and Madhu Bhojwani decided to break the stereotype as they entered the industry where they make their grip stronger day by day. They have been working together for more than two decades in the industry now.

Advani said, “Female producers are not different to any other woman. They work hardback at home and even harder on the sets.” said Bhojwani during BW Businessworld Women Entrepreneurship Summit and Awards 2020.

In 1992, Monisha Advani was quoted as saying “our country’s biggest liability, its people, will rise to become its biggest strength”. At that time, Advani had just spearheaded her first entrepreneurial venture, an academic consultancy. This also marked the first step towards creating a long-standing partnership with school friend Madhu Bhojwani. In 1996, the duo pivoted this business into an HR consultancy, EmmayHR. In 2005, the duo sold the company to Randstad. The period that followed saw them busy in managerial, entrepreneurial and even investor roles. But another landmark came in 2011 when Monisha and Madhu joined hands again to form a partnership with Nikkhil Advani and set up Emmay Entertainment. The production house has grown rapidly to deliver iconic hit films such as D-DAY, Airlift, Satyameva Jayate, Baazaar and Batla House. For these achievements and for their entrepreneurial spirit, they have been awarded BW Businessworld Inspiring Women Entrepreneurs of the Year.
