Smart Cities Will Be A Myth Without People Engagement
From a smart city perspective, the lack of specialized tech people who understand these tech and security systems are a barrier

Technology is at the heart of the development of smart cities now. The data collected can be utilized in making better, smarter decisions. We can build robust smart cities through intelligent technologies.
Sharing his views at the 7th smart cities conclave, Dr. Ashish Kumar Srivastava, CEO of Dehradun Smart City Ltd. talked about the city implementing the Integrated Command Control Centre (ICCC) which will be beneficial in taking the best decision for the city.
Ashish Kumar Pathak, CEO of Jabalpur Smart City Ltd. talked about launching the same initiatives as ICCC and an IT program, which helps in traffic management.
He said, “Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) is utilized for surveillance as well. It helped to monitor during the recent Ayodhya verdict as well. We have a smart school as well along with a city app integrated with the services. We are doing heritage conservation projects, through technology. Citizen engagement is an important part, and we need to work on that. Without people engagement, smart cities will be a myth.”
Nitin Agarwal, Smart City Lead, HP Enterprise said, “Even before smart cities mission, data was collected manually. Now we are collecting more data, and effectively. There is continuous data for environmental monitoring, and traffic systems. For MP, HPE is contributing to the incubation centre and students undergo training who are employed.”
Michael Joseph of Fortinet said what we are doing is giving the visibility in terms of what is happening, proactively taking measures to prevent the asset and avoid compromises. From a smart city perspective, the lack of specialized tech people who understand these tech and security systems are a barrier.
Adding to it, Nitin Singh Bhadauria, DM of Almora shared his views, “We basically need to be unified as a whole and need solutions. We find resource crunches and I want to invite companies to come to the district with the solutions.”
He also added that we should not lose the human touch, and implementing the solutions is the real challenge. Almora has its challenges. Smart policing, CCTV solutions could be taken up from Dehradun.
