Errol D Souza, Director, IIM Ahmedabad graced the occasion with his presence at Future of Management Education Conclave.

Prof D Souza with his vast experience in the field of knowledge said, “Knowledge is something that is generated by the system we are in. A lot of knowledge is generated because we are forcing individuals to think more and more.”

He expressed that real knowledge comes from cross-functional applications which means that the way we deal with education is fundamentally changing.

He said, “We are encouraging people to fail. We are motivating them to come up with an answer. The biggest learnings are from failures”

He further expressed, “Entrepreneurship is about failure. You can’t create without failing. When you create it not only changes the lives around you but also has an impact on the world.”

The faculty plays a very important role in any management institute. D Souza mentioned, “We have our own case center and we also write cases. This provides a platform for the faculty to interact. We try to build within and push it across other institutions, internationally as well. The cross-functional practice gives us visibility too.”

Mentioning about another faculty innovation they are actively working on he said, “Much of the faculty comes from a strict domain knowledge but the understanding of the real world is not deep among the faculty so we want our faculty to see the real-world problems as well.”

IIM-A built its own fund 8 years back to try and ensure that no one should be left behind because of financial reasons and to accept all bright students regardless of their backgrounds.
