Creating Designs with a Heart Connect - Manish Malhotra

Introducing Manish Malhotra at the second edition of Future of Design Award, Dr. Annurag Batra, Chairman of BW Businessworld said Manish Malhotra is an entrepreneur who has not only grown his label manifold over the years but his love for design shows through his work.  


Manish Malhotra completes 30 years in the design industry next year and is now working with 4th generation actors, and believes it is important to take the brand ahead. The ace designer in a freewheeling chat with Dr. Batra said, “The most important thing for all of us is to love what we do. I am influenced by people using architecture, speech and their persona. I am extremely work-centric and am always looking for work, even on weekends.”


Manish Malhotra is a big Bollywood fan and loves the way movies were shot in the 50s and 60s. He believes the youngsters he is working with quite stylish and know exactly what they want. 


He added, “ When designing for youngsters, we need to understand that they have seen a lot and are sure of what they want. As a designer, one need to stick to one’s style and beliefs. Further, one need to keep youngsters in mind, without having to deviate from one’s own ideas.”Talking about designs, Manish Malhotra said, “Anything done with purity, and from the heart connects with everybody which includes designs, craft, and literature. 


I admire international fashion brands, which have been there for more than 100 years, and have been able to sustain themselves through the years.”Since he was six years old, Manish Malhotra has been interested in design and used to correct his mother about her saree design. He has always been fond of movies and wanted to change the outlook of designs in the film industry. The designer got his first breakthrough in the industry through David Dhawan and went on to work with every industry big-wig. However, Yash Chopra was one director he loved working with.  


A workaholic who never says no to work, completing assignments on a very tight schedule, the design maestro concludes, “I want Manish Malhotra to be known as someone who has the right ethics, and on the work front I would like to take up work as a commitment and not just for money. When you are at your job, do it with passion, zeal, and commitment.”
