Behind every great success, there is a great story. In a panel discussion at the BW Disrupt 40 Under 40 event organized by BW Businessworld had the founders and achievers share their success stories and lessons learned on their journey. Participating in the panel discussion were Rakhee Mehta, Wellness Architect and Founder, Magicrise; Karan Bedi, Founder & CEO, MX Player; Gaurav Goel, Founder & CEO, Samagra; Ghazal Alagh, Co-Founder, MamaEarth; Mayank Kachhwaha, COO & Co-Founder, IndiaLends; and Tarun Nangia, Associate Editor at NewsX moderating the panel.

Goel giving an insight into the nature of work his company does said, “Our Company is involved with providing better governance to leverage large-scale impact.” “We work closely with bureaucratic and political systems to facilitate state-wise system reforms across states,” he added. Further illustrating his venture Goel added, “How do you know that whether two crores of farmers have their income doubled in years or not, or how do you whether a particular program or scheme is being properly used and benefitted from by citizens or not – we make such analysis.”

On the point of what the government can do in order to better facilitate the entrepreneurial ecosystem, Goel said that the best government can do is not to come in the way of entrepreneurship. Further, being the nature of work he does with working closely with the government, he was very eager in knowing what different start-ups are up to and what can be done to better facilitate their growth.


Alagh shared the interesting backstory behind the origination of her company MamaEarth. She narrated, “It started when I and my husband had our first son, who was diagnosed with a skin condition. We had to hunt for toxin-free products for our baby.” “We realized the Indian market is not having any non-chemical baby products, and that’s when they decided to start the company (MamaEarth provides natural and toxin-free skincare products for both children and adults),” she added.

Showcasing her company’s success, Mehta said, “We work across 15 cities across and are building wellness content everyday like no one else is building.” Though she also iterated one of the key problems in establishing start-ups is the trouble with gaining working capital.

Enlightening on the nature of content creation, Bedi said, “The demand for this is incassable; you keep supplying more and people will watch more.” Kachhwaha looking at the future prospects of his venture said that the Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities have been underpenetrated and will be our focus in the days to come.
