Those who have spirituality, they respect all the religion. It is different for everyone. I believe in treating others the way I want to be treated. It might take a while to come back to you but sooner or later, you will receive it, says Rupa Ganguly.

“Spirituality is an area where everyone’s opinion differs,” said Rupa Ganguly, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha during her special address at Gandhi-Mandela peace initiative on 11th July in New Delhi.

For Ganguly, spirituality is the time to listen to oneself as it results in the way we act. It is more about being happy. But defines happiness for us? It is defined by our success and again the success is a matter of perspective. In order to achieve success, people are trying hard to control their actions these days. They are fighting for the things they want in life. Controlling is what everyone wants and eventually, we start comparing our lives with others. But spirituality teaches us the acceptance, acceptance of what we have. This will come when decide to spend some time with ourself, we need to fix a particular time for it.

“I believe there are some people who don’t wish to shine by the standards which others accept. While working as a social worker, people questioned my attire. But I canceled all the noise and focus on my work because it makes me happier.” Clearing the doubts about the connection between Religion and Dharam, she said, “People have diversified withsome kind of rules to follow religion and spirituality. Whereas religion and dharam are two different words, even the direct translation of dharam not anywhere close to religion.”

Lastly, she added, “Those who have spirituality, they respect all the religion. It is different for everyone. I believe in treating others the way I want to be treated. It might take a while to come back to you but sooner or later, you will receive it.”
