Is Humanities Necessary For Engineering?

“Science teaches us how to build missiles, Humanities gives the reason about why to build a missile”, said Vice-Chancellor of O.P. Jindal University.

A session held at BW Businessworld Engineering Excellence Conclave unveiled the importance of humanities in the course of Engineering by Dr. C Rajkumar, Vice Chancellor of O.P. Jindal University, who emphasized on the topic “why engineers should have strong foundational knowledge in humanities”. 

He also talked about numerous studies held all around the world that explains the inter-relationship between Engineering and Humanities which helps build a favorable and bright future for the upcoming engineers.  

He said, “Just like a disciplinary approach is needed in Science for the purpose of manufacturing, similarly Humanities helps survive and realize the importance of uncertainty along with the importance of an inter-disciplinary approach just like the study of Psychology”. 

The Vice-Chancellor added, “Science teaches us how to build missiles, Humanities gives the reason about why to build a missile”. 

He also pointed out the importance of Humanities like to infuse ethics, make different and personalized choices and to govern lives as well as teaches us the critical topics such as History, Values, Rural and Urban Laws which a scientific approach fails to educate.
