Future Lies In Digital Transformation: Dhotre Sanjay Shamrao

The Digital India programme of Government of India is a flagship mission to celebrate the success in adapting technology in the mainstream ecosystem. The programme is intended to ease the lives of people by delivering at home government service to the last mile.

Digital India initiatives focus on reducing the digital divide in the country. Keeping in mind the need to have a multi-prolonged strategy, digital disruptions are taking place through digital transformation across domains of operation in the country.

The 5th Digital India Summit and Awards, organised by BW Businessworld, was graced with the presence of Dhotre Sanjay Shamrao, Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Communication, Human Resource Development, Government of India, who talked about the government initiatives to digitally transforms India and way forward.

“The future lies in Digital Transformation and more importantly, it has comfortability and eases to offer services to the citizens. The motto being ‘Power to Empower - Digital India’ campaign is made highly successful by connecting rural areas with high-speed internet connectivity across the nation”, said Dhotre Sanjay Shamrao.

He further informs that while conceptualising the campaign, careful thought was given on the country’s specific needs for digital transformation intending for an overall makeover of e-governance served across the country.

The campaign runs under 9 prominent pillars including broadband highways, public internet access, mobile connectivity, e-Governance, e-Kranti, information for all, electronics manufacturing, IT for Jobs and early harvest program.

“The Digital India Campaign of Government of India is more of an experience that citizens would relish on than any policy, intended to smoothen their day to day life”, he said. 

The minister also expresses that with the advent of newer technologies, like Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Everything, blockchain, robotics etc, gaining momentum, forming interesting campaigns and policies are more receptive by the population of the country. 

Talking about the way forward to leverage Digital India initiatives, he said, “The government in the last five years has launched various schemes and projects as part of ‘Digital India’ programme. Now, in ‘Digital India 2.0,’ it has to maximise the reach of these schemes so that the last mile citizen can access them at one’s doorstep”.

The government has also prepared a draft of 100-days action plan that includes National Policy on Electronics 2019 - new schemes to the Cabinet; National Policy on Software Products 2019 - launch of registry; Digital India Infoway  (National Government Network and National Knowledge Network 2.0); National Mission for Natural Language Translation – proposal to Cabinet (to overcome barriers across major Indian languages); and Personal Data Protection Bill – to the cabinet.
