Emerging Technologies for Governance and Public Service Delivery
Digital transformation has brought a multitude in our daily lives, from the way we interact with each other, to the way we consume content, to the way we shop, among others. Indian is on the path to its digital journey and, this time, the leap is expected to be more gigantic than ever before.

On the importance of Digital transformation, 5th BW Businessworld Digital India Summit saw a panel discussion on Emerging Technologies for Governance and Public Service Delivery: AI, IoT, Machine Learning and 5G at Shangri-La's Eros Hotel here today in New Delhi.
The discussion was moderated by Gaurav Hazra, Sr. Director & Head – India Market Development NASSCOM and was participated by ChhabilendraRoul, Secretary, Department of Fertilizers, Government of India; R K Pathak, Deputy Director General, (International Cooperation) Department of Telecommunications, Government of India; Vijay Sakhare, IGP & Commissioner of Police, Kochi Range; Sandeep Dutta, Chief of Practice, Fractal Analytics; and AngiahSanthanaswamy, Director Business Development – Public Sector, Oracle India Private Limited.
Speaking on technologies used for security purposes, Vijay said, “In Cochin, we have facial recognition cameras at public places which helps in predicting and preventing criminal activities. Cochin Traffic police is equipped with ITMS (Intelligent Traffic Management System) in which AI aids in understanding the traffic and managing traffic lights accordingly”.
On how modern technology is shaping the fertilizer industry, Roul briefed, “We are even using biometric verification for sale of fertilizers which helps in tracking who bought how much of it”. Further, he informed that within two months Nano-fertilizers will be introduced in India which could majorly replace the current usage of fertilizers.
Taking the discussion forward Pathak informed on how India can become a technology provider and further said, “India will be unveiling 5G along with the world and hence will become a technology provider”.
“In the healthcare sector technology is even helping in early stage detection of Tuberculosis using AI”, Sandeep highlighted. He also said that AI can fill the gap of lacking radiologists, imagination and detection machines.
In a project along with NITI Aayog, Oracle’s Santhanaswamy found out that they were even able to trace back the details of the channel of sale to its production plant from the point of sale using blockchain technology.
Digital transformation can be seen as a deep and accelerating transformation with regard to process, activities, competencies and models, in order to take advantage of the changes and opportunities offered by the inclusion of digital technologies into an eco-system.
