Value Of Human Capital Cannot Be Negated

“For many years, the corporate culture was a head down culture where everyone was just doing, doing and doing to achieve a certain goal. All of a sudden everyone has woken up to sit back and think what goals we really need to really be achieved," saidd Sumaya Dalmia, Founder & CEO, SUMAYA

Corporates are about increasing bottom lines and have sustained growth in the top line on a regular basis. But over the last few years, the value of human capital is being harped upon. This was deliberated upon at a panel discussion on ‘Personal Wellbeing philosophy in the corner office’ BW Wellbeing Summit 2018 organized by BW Businessworld today in New Delhi.

Sumaya Dalmia, Founder & CEO, SUMAYA, said, “For many years, the corporate culture was a head down culture where everyone was just doing, doing and doing to achieve a certain goal. All of a sudden everyone has woken up to sit back and think what goals we really need to really be achieved. Ofcourse profitable business is something really important, but along with that, you cannot negate the value of human capital. I think what is really happening and which is a big change is attention to human growth not just (at a )professional (level) but also (at a) personal level.”

Hanumant Talwar, Founder, Cognitiv said, “The real play lies in the state of being individual. What is your level of curiosity, how do you react to adversaries? One of the biggest things I have learnt is what your ability to experiment is. You get so bogged down by numbers and targets and stuff like that, today in hindsight when I look back, the anxieties and pressures of meeting the targets, if I had gone for experimentation, things would have been better.”

Rajnish Virmani, Managing Director, Leadership Fairways, “A lot of people talk about ‘Monday blues’ or ‘TGIF’. To my mind, that is alien stuff. I am enjoying the week as much as I am enjoying the weekends. And again, balancing work-life leadership is alien to me because as far as I am concerning, I am an energy body and am gaining energy at the office throughout the course of the week and am gaining energy at home and bringing it to the office. It is a positive vicious cycle of energy enhancement as I just saw it. Today as I am coaching a whole lot of mid-level and senior level leaders over the last five years, this is the message that I am giving.”

Shubhankar Ghose, CPO, Zoom Insurance Brokers, stated, “When a promoter or an investor is putting in some kind of money, obviously he is expecting some kind of profits. So there needs to be serious business. Often you would see culture matters a lot in the company and the culture is actually created by the top guys. I always believe that small things can create a huge impact. So smallest of the smallest thing like if you talk about leaders, while hiring people or doing a manpower planning if they do it correctly, and if they pick the right person at the right place, obviously the person will be happy and will come back next day happy. But if he is not happy and if he has a health problem, it will deteriorate more. “
