Social Change Shall Be The Top Mandate Of B-Schools

On the B-School Excellence Conclave, the eminent panel discussed on the new agents of social change and how can B-Schools help in such paramount changes

The discussion witnessed the panellists, Prashant Mishra, Dean - IIM Calcutta, Dr. Atmanand, Director - MDI Gurgaon, Madhu Veerarghavan, Director - T.A Pai Management Institute. The panel discussion was moderated by Suman Jha, Executive Editor, BW Businessworld.


Suman Jha said that social change is equally important along with education, as it helps to alter the social order of a society. Further, he asked the panellist that if they agree with his statement and ‘how can B-Schools help in instilment of social change?’


All the panellist mutually agreed that social change is important for the betterment of the society and shared the work done by their institutions and students who have stepped up to work for a social change.


“The school’s alumnus have contributed not only in the business world but have also contributed in the public services, social organisations, and entrepreneurial organisations and even in health care in different areas. It is possible with our curriculum that we can prepare the individuals for social change in order to contribute to the society”, said Prashant Mishra. 


Next panelists, Veera Raghavan told that they have recently launched a course called ‘SEVA – Society Environment Values and Attitudes’ to prepare every individual enrolled to contribute towards the society as well.


Prof Atmanand of MDI said that social education should also be given equal priority along with all other activities that are performed at business schools to prepare young minds towards social change.
