Starting the discussion about the challenges being faced by the industry while hiring people from the B-schools, Brij pahwa sought the opinion from the panellists about the skill gaps which are missing and what possibly can be the different solutions.

The panel was attended by Amit Vaish, Director & head HR, Barclays Technology, Jacob Jacob, CHRO, Columbia Asia Healthcare, Priyanka Nandan, HR, Philips health systems & emerging businesses, Bharat Chabbra, Head of Department D (HR), Tata Power Delhi Distribution Ltd, Tamana Dhamija, Co-founder, Baby Destination.

At the outset, Tamana Dhamija said that the ‘Curiosity’ is missing amongst the candidates and with an inquisitiveness there comes a great 'out of the box' ideas.

“Soft skills are important to make a judgement, one should be passionate and curious as well. The Curriculum of B-schools should be changed according to the era to keep up with the pace of change that is happening in the industry," said Amit Vaish.

Jacob also suggested that the industry and institute should collaborate with each other to bridge the gap between classrooms to the cabin. “More global leaders should be invited to share their experiences with the students," he added.

Priyanka Nandan said that the corporate world and a candidate have a symbiotic relationship, both sides have to work together in order to bridge the gap.

Putting more emphasis on this, Bharat Chabbra also suggested that there should be more joint ventures between the industry and academic institutions since it’s a joint responsibility of both to bridge this gap.
