Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari inaugurated two new National Highway projects on Friday in Vadodara, Gujarat. The Bhumi Pujan (groundbreaking ceremony), held on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's birthday a year and a half ago, marked the beginning of the projects, which had a total cost of Rs 48 crore.

One of the projects is expanding the National Highway 48 near Dumad Chowkdi between Ahmedabad and Vadodara. This project, which has a 3 kilometre length, was opened to commercial use at a cost of Rs 27.01 crore. Gadkari emphasised that the project included the building of new service roads, vehicular underpasses, and RCC (reinforced cement concrete) crash barriers. The purpose of these upgrades is to reduce traffic congestion and improve commuter safety.

The second project is costing Rs 17 crore, and stretches about 1 kilometre near Dena Junction on National Highway 48 in Vadodara. Gadkari said that the construction of an underpass and service road are integral components of this project.

He further added that for the first time, solar powered street lights have been used on National Highway 48. Polymer Modified Bitumen has been used in the underpass and service road surface which will give it greater strength and better resistance to cracks, he added.

Gadkari also remarked on the novel integration of a 3-lane service road in the development. The villages of Dena, Harini, and Virod will have better connectivity thanks to these developments, resulting in safer traffic conditions in accident-prone locations. Additionally, easier access from industrial regions will make movement more fluid.
