Adani Power has commenced the export of electricity to Bangladesh from its 1,600MW facility located in Godda, Jharkhand. Adani Power Jharkhand (APJL), a wholly owned subsidiary of Adani Power, announced that its second unit of the Godda ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, with a capacity of 2x800 MW, has achieved its commercial operations date (COD). This information was conveyed in a statement released by Adani Power on Tuesday.

The reliability run test, which encompassed the commercial operation tests of the second unit of the Godda power plant, was successfully completed on 25 June in the presence of officials from the Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) and the Power Grid Corporation of Bangladesh (PGCB).

On 6 April, the first unit of the power plant, with a capacity of 800 MW, attained its COD.

According to the statement, the power supply from the Godda plant to Bangladesh will contribute to bolstering energy security in the neighbouring country. Under the power purchase agreement (PPA) executed in November 2017, APJL will provide 1,496 MW net capacity power from the 2x800 MW Godda ultra-supercritical thermal power plant to the BPDB for a duration of 25 years. This will be achieved through a 400 kV dedicated transmission system connected to the Bangladesh grid.

The statement further stated that the power supplied from the Godda power plant will have a favourable impact on Bangladesh's power situation by substituting costly power generated from liquid fuel. This transition will help Bangladesh in reducing the average cost of purchased power.

Mr. SB Khyalia, CEO of Adani Power, expressed that the Godda power plant will serve as a symbol of friendship and mark a new phase in the longstanding and diverse relations between India and Bangladesh.

Despite the challenges posed by the three waves of the Covid pandemic in India, China, and Bangladesh, Adani Power Jharkhand successfully completed the construction of the Godda ultra-supercritical thermal power plant, including the dedicated transmission line, within a timeframe of approximately 3.5 years from its financial closure, the company stated.

The commissioning of the Godda ultra-supercritical thermal power plant is regarded as a significant achievement for Adani Group, BPDB, and the economic ties between the two nations, as per the statement.

Adani Power (APL), which forms part of the diversified Adani Group, stands as the largest private thermal power producer in India. The company possesses a total installed thermal power capacity of 15,210 MW, distributed across seven power plants situated in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, and Madhya Pradesh. Additionally, it operates a 40 MW solar power plant in Gujarat.
