In a country obsessed with marks, grades and board percentage, how many parents actually do care about their child’s holistic growth. How many do actually understand that all work and no play makes Jack a dull boy?
Experts from the education industry discussed this issue and ideated ways on how the students today in schools can be given a holistic education instead of only academic excellence.
“It is not either or, a student today requires a full overall development. Only academic excellence won’t help,” Bindu Rana, Founder and CEO, Millennium Education Management Pvt Ltd.
“I have 20-30 schools under me and there is just a war going on in schools for admissions. Right now, we need to focus on the essence of education,” said Rana.
Addressing the issues on the kind of education being provided at schools, Ankit Agarwal, Chairperson, Doon Global School, said “The school's today are making robots, we are not focusing on the real problem. Teachers should use their own way of teaching rather than sticking to traditional practices.”
“We should have faith on the education system,” he added further.
Adding on to the discussion Pankaj Sudan, Founder, The Plenum School claimed that he is in the process of making the finest school in the world.
Jagpreet Singh, Head of School, Punjab Public School Nabha, concluded the session by saying Holistic Education is more defensible, practical and effective approach to developing healthy, well-balanced students so that they become good contributors to the society.
This conclave organised by BW Education, a vertical of the parent company BW Businessworld aimed at bringing leaders in the field of education under one roof and creating a free flow of ideas among them. It was a platform dedicated to ideate and find solutions on education problems persisting in the country.
