Intolerance Stalls Parliament

A week into the Winter Session of Parliament, the issue of intolerance continues to dominate the discourse. While the Opposition says that India is moving from a Developed India to Divided India … Home Minister Rajnath Singh has countered that by stating India ranks high in social tolerance.

Congress MP Kumari Selja’s recent comments have only added fuel to fire. The fate of several bills, including the GST bill, still hang in balance. Despite the much-talked about meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and former PM Manmohan Singh earlier this week, there seems to be a deadlock on the crucial bill. While Modi has avoided taking a confrontational approach with the Oppotition, it remains to be seen whether this has any effect on the passage of the legislation.
