Air pollution reached hazardous levels in Beijing this week prompting the city to upgrade to the second highest alert in the last 13 months. The Beijing smog alert underlines China’s challenges as it joins other countries to try to reduce greenhouse gases. President Xi Jinping has traveled to Paris for United Nations-sponsored talks with more than 140 world leaders including PM Narendra Modi aimed at cutting emissions.

But how safe is India’s capital, when it comes to air pollution? The smog levels are rising alarmingly, as the city waits for the onset of winters.
