With a customer-centric approach, Welspun has a presence in over 50 countries and boasts a team of over 26,000 employees. Known for its comprehensive range of hard and soft flooring solutions, and operating in sectors such as home textiles, advanced textiles, retail, infrastructure and more makes it a unique player in the industry. In FY22, Welspun reported a turnover of Rs 6,703.46 crore with a profit after tax of Rs 392.13 crore.

Upcycling & Recycling
Welspun’s ‘Spun’ initiative is an endeavour that empowers women while upcycling factory waste into handmade products inspired by Indian artisan traditions. The initiative has improved the livelihoods of women, tripling their incomes and enhancing their lifestyles. In addition, its commitment to sustainability includes training over 16,400 farmers on sustainable cotton sourcing, recycling two tonnes of factory waste monthly, and utilising recycled paper for 85 per cent of carton usage. Moreover, packaging waste ensures a closed-loop system. Metal and paper waste are sent to specialised recycling companies, while waste cuttings from bed sheets and towels are ingeniously repurposed to create cotton fibres used for stuffing pillows.

Recycling Sewage
In another move towards sustainability, successful trials have utilised sludge from Welspun’s Anjar factory as a fuel source, reducing reliance on fossil fuels and eliminating hazardous waste in landfills. Welspun collaborates with local municipal bodies to collect, transport, and treat public sewage, recycling over seven billion litres of water annually for operational purposes. Notably, water intensity per kilogram of processed goods is significantly reduced below the industry average, and over 80 per cent of hazardous waste is internally recycled and utilised as fuel.

Environmental Safety
Welspun Flooring demonstrates a strong commitment to environmental sustainability by conducting logistics capacity assessments and implementing verified third-party environmental product declarations. Through Scope 3 emission calculations and collaboration with suppliers and logistics partners, efforts are made to address greenhouse gas (GHG) impacts across the value chain and minimise the overall GHG footprint. The company’s products meet stringent standards such as Greenguard Gold certification for low chemical emissions.

Sustainable Procurement
As part of its risk management strategy, Welspun conducts scenario analysis using the International Energy Agency World Energy Outlook 2021 and net zero emission scenario. Physical risk is identified as a significant concern. The evaluation process has identified seven risks applicable to all manufacturing sites, emphasising the company’s commitment to mitigating potential threats. To promote sustainable practices, Welspun has implemented a sustainable procurement policy, conducting regular assessments for social and environmental performance. In pursuit of transparency and traceability, it has launched the Wel-Trak 2.0 blockchain, enabling the tracking of finished textile products throughout the value chain and verifying cotton fibres from their source during the farming process.
