International Olympic Day 2022: Theme, Significance, History

This day is especially for the sports freak who are encouraged to make a path and excel in this field. Nagaland is celebrating the Olympic Day on 25 June by organising a race

The Olympic Day is celebrated  on 23 June, worldwide to celebrate the commemoration of the International Olympic games and the benefits of the sports activities.  It encourages the youth to participate in sports activities and to gain the benefits from it. Olympic games are held every four years. This day also falls on the foundation day of the National Olympic Committee (IOC).

In order for goodwill to flourish sports must be seen as a force that contributes to the social cohesion and tolerance in the society. Move, Learn and Discover are the three pillars of the Olympic day.  Sports organisation throughout the world celebrate this day by actively motivating the youngsters and the adults to discover new sports by embarrassing the main ideals of the Olympic.

International Olympic Day: History

On this day, countries around the world organize Olympic events to encourage athletes to portray their talents and skills.

The first-ever Olympics Day was celebrated on 23 June in the year 1948, in Sorbonne, Paris, to mark the birth of the Modern Olympic Games. On that day, 9 countries namely Portugal, Greece, Austria, Canada, Switzerland, Great Britain, Uruguay, Venezuela and Belgium participated for the first time. The idea was put forth by Doctor Josef Gruss, a Czech IOC member, at the 41st Session of the International Olympic Committee in Stockholm. This day was intended as a celebration of what the Olympic Games stood for.

Initially, World Olympics Day started as a Marathon organized by the NOC's. Over the years, workout activities, competitions and other sporting events have added themselves into the day's festivities. These are independent of age, gender or ability.

Theme for the day

World Olympics Day is celebrated with a theme of "Together, For a Peaceful World" which will bring in more harmony to the people through support activities.
