IPL overtakes EPL's Match Valuation At Rs 104 Crore

The BCCI-backed Twenty20 cricket league now stands at second place in terms of valuation only behind American football league NFL

As per reports from Day 1 of The Indian Premier League media rights auction., the BCCI-backed Twenty20 cricket league has overtaken the English Premier League in terms of per match valuation.

Sourav Ganguly, President, The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had recently stated that the IPL generates more revenue than EPL, which has been proven right through latest figures achieved by IPL's per match valuation at its' media rights auction.

IPL's per match value currently stands at INR 104 crore compared to a match of the English Premier League, which generates INR 85 crore.

The American football league, NFL is the only sporting event to have a higher per match valuation at INR 133 crore  

The e-auction for IPL's media rights is being conducted for 74 games per season for a five-year period from 2023-to 2027, with a provision of increasing the number of matches to 94 in the final two years. The auction has been divided into a total of four packages (A, B, C, and D).

Package A serves exclusively for TV broadcast to the Indian subcontinent while package B serves digital-only grouping for the Indian subcontinent. Package C is a separate digital space created to broadcast a select group of highly valued 18 games. This includes the final, the playoff matches, the tournament opener, and a few evening weekend games. 

Package D is a combined (TV and digital) bracket for global rights divided into two categories which could include either the entire world or the five exclusive regions.
