The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has recommended a structure for regulating artificial intelligence (AI) cases through a risk-based framework, according to a recent media report.

Trai also proposed that the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeiTY) will be the administrative ministry for AI. The regulatory body’s suggestion came following a global call to regulate AI and generative AI. MeitY is also in talks to bring in similar norms in the upcoming Digital India Bill, the report mentioned.

It is said that the Digital India Bill will replace the two-decade-old Information Technology Act.

Reports say that TRAI's recommendations for establishing an AI framework are for leveraging artificial intelligence and big data in the telecommunication sector.

The telecom regulator will set up an independent statutory authority called the Artificial Intelligence and Data Authority of India (AIDAI) responsible for framing AI regulations.
