The monsoon session of the Parliament will start from 20 July and will be conducted till 11 August. This will be the first session in the new parliament building and there are 21 new bills and 7 old bills listed for the discussion during the session.

According to the bulletin issued by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, these 28 bills include the Digital Personal Data Protection Bill, 2022. This bill will be replacing the provisions of the current Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practises and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information). Wide-ranging exemptions are expected to be included in the new bill, which may also result in a reduction in the authority of the data protection board.

The other bills that will be tabled include the Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023. The Forest (Conservation) Amendment Bill, 2023, which attempts to amend the Forest (Conservation) Act of 1980, is another important piece of legislation. Before being put on the table for discussion and passage during the monsoon session, this controversial bill was forwarded to a parliamentary committee for assessment and approval.

Multi-State Co-operative Societies (Amendment) Bill, 2022 that proposes the establishment of a Co-operative Rehabilitation, Reconstruction and Development Fund to support struggling multi-state co-operative societies is also scheduled for the monsoon session. Along with these, the Biological Diversity (Amendment) Bill, 2021 will also be tabled. The bill has already received clearance from a Joint Committee of Parliament and is ready to be tabled. It proposes amendments to the existing Biological Diversity Act of 2002 to enhance biodiversity conservation and promote benefit-sharing with local communities.

The other bills that are scheduled for the monsoon session include Jan Vishwas (Amendment of Provisions) Bill, 2022, The National Research Foundation Bill, 2023, Mediation Bill, 2021, Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Third Amendment) Bill, 2022, that has already been passed by the Lok Sabha and awaits passage in the Rajya Sabha.
