‘I found my own partner through the website’, gushes Murugavel Janakiraman, Founder & CEO, BharatMatrimony.com, who recalls his inspiring journey when he was working as a consultant in US, running a small community website for the Tamils living abroad. Since then, there has been no looking back.

Speaking at the BW Businessworld Young Entrepreneur Summit and Awards, 2016, Janakiraman opens his heart to the audience, inspiring the buzzing young euphoria in the room, which this summit brought together.

Considering himself to be lucky enough to be laid off by his company in the US, Janakiraman admits how it took him 6 years of hard work to create BharatMatrimony, amidst the 2008 bubble burst, a multi-million dollar company and venturing it out further, “I pledged my house to insert money in the company”, says Janakiraman.

Driving on the ideology of idea, passion and purpose, Janakiraman build on the disruption, brought in by the technology usage in the last few years, maintaining his stance on the fact that the desktop conversions is still higher than the mobile, due to its adaptive nature. However, wants to cash on the interesting opportunity of mobile matchmaking.

“An Indian spends around an average of 8 lakhs on a wedding, there lies a 54 million dollar unorganised industry potential that could be tapped”. Terming this business as ‘Recession Proof’, Janakiraman says that less than 6 million prospective people come online which they wish to target. BharatMatrimony journey laid down its seedling from community building for Tamilians abroad and today apart from India, has its roots extend to countries like Pakistan, Dubai, Bangladesh and diversity ventures into the class of professionals, elites and varied other communities.

When asked on the new emerging trend of online dating website and their rising foothold in India, Janakiraman maintains his stance on ‘Commitment to Marriage’ and questions the sustainability of such concepts, “These things would not work in if you look from a long term perspective. The intend of the concepts sometimes goes in the wrong direction”.

Mentoring the young entrepreneurs at the summit, Janakiraman articulates the need to evolve with the technology today, which more than disruptive, could end up being destructive, if misjudged, hinting on the fall on Nokia or the SMS services with new apps trending. “Availability of money today is not a problem. The problem is that a lot of entrepreneurs want fast growth, rather than sustainable growth, which is not encouraging. You need to foresee opportunities, including technology, to take advantage of that”.

Today, the brand has succeeded to an extent of becoming synonyms to the category.

Good Citizen, Good parenting, Good marriage, Bharatmatrimony.com wants to continue their journey with the philosophy of ‘Building a better Bharat through happy marriages’.
