India's Overall Mineral Production Rises By 6.4% In May 2023, Says Centre

Important minerals showing negative growth included natural gas(U)(0.3 per cent), petroleum (crude) (-1.9 per cent), phosphorite (-6.3 per cent) and lignite(-17.7 per cent)

The Ministry of Mines on Tuesday said that India's overall mineral production increased by 6.4 per cent in May 2023 and cumulative growth touched 5.8 per cent from April to May 2022-23.

The index of mineral production of the mining and quarrying sector for the month of May stood at 128.1. 

The production level of important minerals in May 2023 was coal 762 lakh, lignite 35 lakh, petroleum (crude) 25 lakh, iron ore 253 lakh, limestone 387 lakh tonnes each, natural gas (utilised) 2838 million cu. m and gold 97 kg.

The ministry added that important minerals showing positive growth during May 2023 over May 2022 included manganese ore (40.4 per cent), magnesite (28.2 per cent), copper conc. (24.4 per cent), chromite(16.3 per cent), iron ore (13.6 per cent), limestone (10.1 per cent), lead conc.(9.7 per cent), coal (7 per cent), bauxite(4.8 per cent) and zinc conc.(2.9 per cent). 

At the same time, other important minerals showing negative growth included natural gas(U)(0.3 per cent), petroleum (crude) (-1.9 per cent), phosphorite (-6.3 per cent) and lignite(-17.7 per cent).
