India and the UK have recently concluded their eleventh round of talks regarding the proposed free trade agreement (FTA). The Ministry of Commerce & Industry announced that the negotiations began on 13 January 2021. The most recent round of talks for the UK-India FTA was completed on 18 July 2023.

The negotiations were conducted in a hybrid manner, with some Indian officials attending in person in London while others participated virtually. During the 10-11 July meeting, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal visited the UK as part of the eleventh round of negotiations.

He held meetings with Kemi Badenoch MP, secretary of state for Business and Trade and Nigel Huddleston MP, the minister of state for International Trade, to discuss progress on the FTA negotiations and explore broader trade and investment opportunities between the UK and India.

In addition to Piyush Goyal's visit, commerce secretary Sunil Barthwal also travelled to the UK during this round. He met with senior UK trade officials to assess the advancements made in the eleventh round of negotiations.

Throughout the talks, there were detailed discussions on the draft treaty text across nine policy areas during more than 42 separate sessions.

The twelfth round of negotiations is scheduled to take place in the upcoming month.
