The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) second long-range forecast (LRF) for the 2023 south-west monsoon season indicated a normal rainfall at 96 per cent. This can aptly be called a delight to the monsoon admirers.

The below-normal rain forecast for June 2023 will surely get many to step out this monsoon and embrace the raindrops with a cup of cutting chai(tea), And if you are confused about where to experience this rainy joy, BW Sunday reads suggests the dream city ‘Mumbai’ to capture the true spirit of the downpours.

Mumbai has endless rainy attractions to visit and since the reservoir storage also recorded a mild YoY dip to 31 per cent of live capacity at Full Reservoir Level (FRL) as on 25 May 2023, as per IMD, one can surely experience the rainy wave of the fastest city amidst such favourable weather conditions.

Marine Drive, The Bandra-Worli Sea Link, Gateway of India, Juhu Beach and Powai Lake are the top five places one can rush these rains before the weather condition turns unfavourable and the authorities take charge of our safety.

Marine Drive

One of the best things and everything about Mumbai’s rain can be enjoyed at Marine Drive, there is no place more ideal than the Queen’s Necklace to experience the rainy bliss. Marine Drive is a 3-kilometre-long promenade, the 'C'-shaped six-lane concrete road along the coast of a natural bay. It is in south Mumbai a superior part of the city, marking exclusive and classy landmarks. The place is famous for having ‘cutting chai’ in the rain.

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link

The Bandra-Worli Sea Link connects Mumbai’s suburbs to South Mumbai. It’s a prestigious bridge marking a combination of natural beauty and a man-made marvel. A long drive on a rainy day through the bridge would delight you with nature’s scenery and mesmerising sea breeze. The place is also a wonderful getaway to capture the city’s beautiful view but all you have to do is keep a check on Mumbai’s traffic before planning a drive to save it from failure.

Gateway of India

The Gateway Of India is the best tourist attraction of Mumbai, but this monsoon you can actually witness its beauty by taking a ferry ride and enjoying the cool breeze. As according to IMD’s monsoon prediction, Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) conditions are neutral over the Indian Ocean at present, indicating the development of positive IOD during June-September 2023, thus creating a safe scenario for the sea ride which is usually rare during monsoons. Gateway of India is surrounded by the Arabian Sea, a region of sea in the northern Indian Ocean.

Juhu Beach

Juhu Beach is Mumbai’s jewels, studded with homes of Bollywood celebrities, designer boutiques, sea-facing restaurants and the most peaceful Iskcon temple suited in the neighbourhood. It is a beach which is never calm and most crowded. The water games introduced at the beach are the newest attraction to many, especially for the water people who love to have sea adventures.

There is no official announcement if the water games are open in the monsoon but since the weather department predicted normal rainfall this year we can hope for the best.

Powai Lake

Powai Lake is the artificial lake of Mumbai, situated about 40 kilometres from the city’s downtown by road with Andheri and Kurla the nearest railway stations to it. The lake which used to supply drinking water for Mumbai earlier remains a tourist attraction now. Many crocodiles have been seen on the lakeside, it’s also the best spot to observe various species of birds. The place is at its best during monsoon and the favourable downpours are another reason to visit Powai Lake this season.
