Moral Life Skills Equally Important As Higher Education

Dr. Annurag Batra, chairman and editor-in-chief, BW Businessworld said that, "we must move from MBA to life and the acronyms of life can be stated as leadership, innovation, and entrepreneurship."

Through the welcome address of the B-School Excellence Conclave 2018 conducted by BW Businessworld, Dr. Annurag Batra thanked all the eminent speakers and guests. Dr. Batra shared his experiences of life while growing up and said that the best school for a child is his home.


"The future of business schools lies upon the basic principle which is to practice what you preach, the schools must be reinvented to create leaders and entrepreneurs," said Dr. Batra


He also mentioned the need of an optional course on Vedas that must be included in the curriculum and it must be taught beyond religion. He said Vedas consist of important moral and life skills lessons which should be taught.


The keynote speakers, Dr. Pritam Singh and D. Shivakumar expressed their views on the challenges in improving the quality of B-school education’ and ‘the future of B-schools' respectively.


“The purpose of academic institutions should be ‘principle’ and ‘application’ of knowledge. The first principle is to begin with an empty mind and then learn," said Pritam Singh.


He further stressed on training the teachers in order to increase the credibility of academic institutions and the courses must be designed accordingly.


D. Shivakumar, Group President, Aditya Birla said that MBA curriculum and B-schools need to be reinvented, listing the advice as; one should be as practical as possible, students should be taught to handle the failure and to work in a team. The MBA is a holistic degree.


S. C. Sharma, Director- ICFAI Business School Gurgaon addressed the audience by giving insights on innovation in teaching. He said that there must be great understanding and relationship of respect between the teacher and the student. He also expressed that a student must be self-learner to gain in comprehensive knowledge about the subject.
