Revamping Education System Is A Way Forward To Empower India
The second day of BW Envision saw thought leaders from various walks of life talking about a roadmap for overhauling the education system, towards a better tomorrow.

“A powerful nation can influence the world order. But where are we lacking? Maybe our education system doesn’t encourage innovative thinking. We need to prioritise innovation. We need to create a curriculum that translates into economic value, thus contributing to the GDP of the country,” said Vinit Goenka, Member-Governing Council CRIS, Ministry of Railways.
Stressing on the use of technology in curriculum, he added: “Education must employ technology and thus empower the students to apply it in an innovative way. This would enable Gen Next to create innovative products to make the country powerful”.
His thoughts were endorsed by Navin Mittal, Commissioner of Collegiate Education, Government of Telangana.
Said Mittal: “India is witnessing a digital revolution with proliferating online degrees, and online programs. Even the UGC has come up with online education regulations. We are on the cusp of the fourth Industrial Revolution in terms of AI, machine learning and India must harness its full potential”.
Talking about the expanding opportunities in India as a result of the digital boom, he added: “Earlier 90% of IIT engineers used to go to the US, but that is not the case anymore. Today they all want to work in India, possibly as entrepreneurs. This is leading to a huge transformation in the country”.
By way of giving an example, he added: “Today the best IT companies are there in Hyderabad but they complain about the lack of quality manpower”.
G.S. Narsing Rao, Director ICFAI Business School, stressed on quality research.
“It is important to identify a problem, and through innovative programmes resolve the problems. We have trained faculty members with thought leadership programs across various IIMs and other institutions,” he said.
Rao talked about some of the initiatives taken by the school. “A case research centre was created with the ICFAI system to focus on the Indian cases so that people can identify problems in the classroom and can come out with solutions. We believe that not only students but the faculty, too, need to publish research papers”.
