BW Businessworld HR Conclave 2017: Senior HR Leaders Talk About Disruption In The Field

How the ecosystem of HR is changing formed the core of content at the first panel of BW Businessworld HR conclave. Senior HR leaders from renowned companies such as Adidas India, Samsung, Jubilant Foodworks among others expressed there opinions on the disruption in the field and how the future looks like

BW Businessworld’s latest editorial endeavour, ‘BW People’ a magazine dedicated towards the domain and the ecosystem of human resources, was launched in the capital today. The HR conclave saw the presence of personalities with experience in the field of human resource management, emphasizing on topics of evolvement, artificial intelligence and the changes in the ecosystem due to the oncoming of the millennial generation.

‘HR’s won’t be working on a physical workspace anymore, HR will change, the community has to change, change according to the demands and needs’, said Arijit Sengupta, HR Director, Adidas India, one of the panellists of the inauguration session. Mr. Sengupta further added, ‘Employee operating has not changed through the years, HR has’. Highlighting the importance of personal employee development, Mr. Sengupta called the community a workplace shaper. Emphasizing on technology evolvement, he added, busineses are getting integrated, outsourcing is increasing, but the importance of human touch and presence will always remain. HR space has evolved, its right next to the CEO, he concluded. 

Mr. Biplob Banerjee, HR head, Jubliant Foodworks, who was also a part of the panel, stressed on high tech disruption. He stated, ‘there is a young millennial workforce in action, and the expectations are different, managing must diverse’. HR is evolving because of its constant learning from the young workforce it is surrounded with. Mr. Banerjee urged other HR professionals to cut down social interaction with employees and focus more on face-to-face communication.

‘The millennials will transform into Gen-X and the designations will rapidly shift’, said Mr. Sandeep Tyagi, HR, Samsung Electronics India. Mr Tyagi added, in the coming years, the role of HR will shift from managing to leading, from HR managers to HR leaders. He further added that the roles of HR will shift to customer service, marketing and branding, general roles will get bifurcated by shared approach, the intensity and depth will increase many folds. 

Mr. Amitabh Akhauri, CHRO, Jindal Stainless, who was also present at the underlined the vision, mission and development of an organization by the HR. On the similar lines, Mr. Sandip Dhir, Chief HRM, Tata Steel, commented about the multi-layer and location disruption, being the key driver in emergence of HR community. ‘HR analytics and artificial intelligence will take HR community to new heights’, Mr. Dhir concluded. 

‘With the expansion of businesses and job roles, there is a great expansion of opportunity for the HR community’, Mr. Rahul Taneja, HR Head, Jet Airways. The business is circumstantial and evolving day-by-day, and so are the HR’s.
