Tech analysts Blayne Curtis and Tom O'Malley from Barclays have revealed that Apple's plans to launch a fourth-generation iPhone SE in 2024 have hit a snag in their research note.

The much-anticipated device was rumoured to boast an Apple-designed 5G modem, but the development appears to be delayed, according to reports from MacRumors.

Apple has been diligently working on creating its own modem since 2018 and took a significant step towards achieving this goal in 2019 by acquiring Intel's smartphone modem division. However, despite these efforts, it seems that Apple's modem is not yet ready for prime time. As a result, analysts believe that Qualcomm will continue to be Apple's modem provider for both the iPhone SE and the iPhone 16 series at least into the next year.

Earlier reports suggested that the fourth-generation iPhone SE would resemble the standard iPhone 14, featuring a 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, and flat corners. However, due to the apparent delay in the development of the new iPhone SE, Apple's plans for the smartphone may undergo changes in the future. According to reports, the release of the new iPhone SE is now expected no earlier than 2025. In the meantime, the current model of the iPhone SE remains a reliable option for consumers looking to make a purchase.

In another intriguing development, Apple's recent patent application has hinted at the possibility of a revolutionary new design for future iPhones. The company's patent filing describes a device with a rollable or scrollable display, paving the way for exciting advancements in the tech giant's product line. The patent suggests that future products like iPhones, iPads, televisions, desktop displays, and vehicle dashboards could potentially feature this cutting-edge technology.
