Women are now donning the corporate caps even more. According to a study, 32 per cent of senior management positions are now held by women, globally, in mid-market businesses, and the same stands at 36 per cent in India.

These are the findings of Grant Thornton’s International Business Report on ‘Women in Business 2023 - The push for parity. The report also revealed that 9 per cent of senior leadership roles in the global space has no involvement of women.

As far as the different regions are concerned, The ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) region experienced the most significant percentage points rise from 37 per cent to reach the 40 per cent mark while the APAC (Asia-Pacific) region experienced an increase to 32 per cent.

Commenting on the data, Gunjan Goel, Director, of Goel Ganga Development said, “It is encouraging news about women in leadership positions in India's mid-market. According to the Grant Thornton report 'Women in Business 2023,' 36% of senior positions in India's mid-market are held by women. This is a significant increase from the previous year's report, which showed that only 29% of senior positions were held by women. This progress is particularly noteworthy given the challenges that women have historically faced in the workplace, including bias and discrimination.”

As per the report, among all the senior leadership roles, women are mostly occupying the position of Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Managing Director (MD) and Chief Information Officer (CIO) positions.

“This impressive statistic is a testament to women's ability to impact leadership roles significantly. To increase workplace diversity, we must encourage and support women in leadership roles. Leadership is more than just holding a position, acquiring new skills, and adjusting one's style. It involves empowering women to lead and bring about transformative changes in their communities and the world. Furthermore, 50% of Artha's leadership positions are held by women”, said, Sandesha Jaitapkar, CHRO, Artha Group.

The data released by Grant Thornton’s International Business Report shows that women are accomplishing what they are working for. The different measures that companies are rolling in are giving output. However, the women securing senior leadership roles do not reflect the equal ratio of men and women in the workforce, which companies need to work on.
