Union Minister Bhupender Yadav Headlines BW India's Most Sustainable Companies 2022-23

India's 50 most sustainable companies were awarded on the occasion, which also marked the end of the first day of the two-day BW Sustainable World Conclave that was themed this year as ‘India’s Big Leap With G20 Presidency’

The third edition of India’s Most Sustainable Companies (IMSC) culminated on a high note as it continued its pursuit of recognising companies that have shown exceptional commitment to sustainable practices and showcase their dedication to addressing global challenges in this area.

The celebration on 20 June 2023, organised by BW Businessworld in association with Sustain Labs Paris, was graced by the presence of Chief Guest, Shri Bhupender Yadav, Union Cabinet Minister for Environment, Forest & Climate Change, Labour & Employment, Government of India, who delivered an address on India's Role in Leading the Global Sustainability Agenda as G20 President.

India's 50 most sustainable companies were awarded on the occasion, which also marked the end of the first day of the two-day BW Sustainable World Conclave that was themed this year as ‘India’s Big Leap With G20 Presidency’. Each company's sustainable practises and commitment to ethical business were thoroughly assessed as part of the thorough review process. In addition to excelling in these parameters, India's most sustainable companies also led the industry by integrating sustainable practices into every facet of their daily operations. These companies are recognised for their remarkable achievements and it also aims to inspire others to carry out similar, innovative and fruitful sustainability projects.

Under each category, the evaluation procedure took into account different sub-parameters. The first parameter, resource efficiency, examined factors like productivity of energy and water, innovation, use of human resources, and waste management. The second factor, social entrepreneurship, concentrated on life cycle pollution, charitable endeavours, and the effects on people's lives, both good and bad. The third component, financial management, evaluated climate resilience, CEO-average worker pay ratio, optimisation, reporting, and financial health. 

The fourth criterion, employee well-being, included indicators including the percentage of lost-time injuries, the gender wage gap, deaths, attrition rates, employee happiness, gender parity in leadership, workplace diversity, and employee health policies. The fifth factor, clean revenue, assessed waste-to-wealth practises, sharing platforms, legal actions, and compliances. The inclusive supply chain also looked at integration, transparency, pollution, and human rights.

The distinguished jury panel included Dhaval Monani, CEO of First Home Realty Solutions and Senior Fellow at Artha Global and IDFC Foundation; Srinath Sridharan, Corporate Advisor; Sandeep Kanda, Consultant at the World Bank, India; Subhashini Chandran, Vice President of Social Impact, Asia Pacific, at the Mastercard Centre for Inclusive Growth; Dr. Debajit Palit, Professor of Energy at NTPC School of Business; Mungo Park, Chairman of Innovator Capital; Kartik Desai, Founder & CEO of Desai & Associates; Bhaskar Bhatt, Dean - School of Design at Anant National University; Rina Singh, Founder and Designer at EKA; Vikram Chatterji, CEO of Galileo; Jos C Raphael, Director of District Rainwater Harvesting Mission, Kerala government (Mazhapolima); and Mohammed Mofizur Rahman, Scientist at the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research. These esteemed jury members, with their diverse expertise and extensive experience, ensured a comprehensive evaluation of the participating companies.
