The Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise is on a path to becoming a primary employer for foreign cricketers over their national boards as eight of the IPL's 10 franchises own at least one team in another league abroad.

According to Reuters, a media house, teams in new T20 tournaments in South Africa, the United Arab Emirates and the United States are already acquired by the owners of Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.

It adds that Neil Maxwell, Australia's most prominent player confirmed the multi-club deal.

Neil Maxwell highlighted the cricket landscape is changing and the growing number of T20 leagues offering lucrative contracts to the best players loses the primary importance of the national team.

Maxwell stressed the West Indies example, as the team struggled to field their best players for years due to scheduling clashes.

He added that the situation will worsen for national boards as they struggle to match their star player’s multi-league contracts with the private franchise.

For the first time boards were offering longer-term contracts due to the growing competition, this will evolve further as players get more and more choices as to when and where they play, said Maxwell.

For now, no official announcement is made about the offers but some cricket boards are already in action protecting their talent.
