Latest report predicts that Brazil is slated to win the FIFA World Cup 2022, which is being held in Qatar.

The prediction is based on Machine Learning (ML) techniques, which gives Brazil a probability of 20.9 per cent to win the FIFA World Cup. The reports says that Argentina has the second highest probability of winning the World Cup (14.3 per cent).

The research was conducted by DataLab, Serasa Experian's innovation laboratory, that tapped into a machine learning model created based on data from the last three football World Cup cycles. Using similar algorithms used by streaming platforms to recommend shows to users, DataLab set up a machine learning system that predicts the probability of the result of each match between two countries.

The ML-based report comes out even as Brazil posted a thumping 2-0 win over Serbia late on Thursday, in its first World Cup game. The match saw Tottenham Hotspur forward, Richarlison, strike twice in the second half to help Brazil record a win after a goalless first half.

Apart from Brazil and Argentina, the ML-based report says France (11.4 per cent) has the third highest probability to win the World Cup, ahead of Spain (9 per cent) and Germany (3.4 per cent).

The ML-based research also says that Brazil from Group G has the highest probability of going to the knockout stages of the World Cup apart from Argentina in Group C, France in Group D and Spain from Group E – ahead of Germany.
