The BW Businessworld Education School Leaders Conclave was held in New Delhi on Feb 19, which saw eminent leaders from the sector gather to discuss key advancements in the education system globally.

“To create excellence and a curriculum that would make a difference to society we need to create student leaders. We have to understand that an individual never fails, it is just an experience and the idea or something similar fails. The individual rises from his or her mistakes and learns a lot. There is too much pressure these days to succeed, rather than on being happy, content and satisfied. We as parents and society should focus on the happiness of our children.” said Dr Annurag Batra, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief, BW Businessworld and Exchange4media Group.

While addressing educationists and leaders from the education and school ecosystem he highlighted that back in the day the focus was on personality development as opposed to merely achieving high grades. “I went to a Convent school and enjoyed the experience. I genuinely believe that my stint there from Grade 1 to Grade 10 has made me what I am today. Whatever I have achieved is because of my schooling. Education is a key tool for success. In fact, the class of moral education was what I used to look forward to.” he stated.

Dr Batra concluded his welcome address by saying, “It is okay to fail. Teachers need to allow a pupil to be in touch with their inner child. Teachers also need to be stop being judgmental. At every level, be it at the Principal’s level, the Director’s level and especially at the teacher’s level, schools need to focus on children’s happiness rather than putting pressure. There has to be a balance inculcated in every child’s life.”
